Acceptable Use Policy
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") explains what you may and may not do with ALISA (formerly ARIA), the AI assistant provided by Madd Technologies LLC ("Madd Technologies", "we", "us", or "our"). It protects the people you email and call, the providers ALISA connects to, communications networks, and ALISA itself.
This AUP is part of the Terms of Use. You agree to it when you agree to the Terms of Use in the app. Words defined in the Terms of Use have the same meaning here.
1. Your responsibilities
- Use ALISA lawfully, and follow the laws of every place where you, the people you contact, and the people who call you are located.
- You are responsible for the accounts, inboxes, calendars, phone numbers, contacts, prompts, and instructions you connect to or give ALISA, and for everything you approve ALISA to send, say, or do.
- Use ALISA only with accounts and information you are authorized to use.
- Review what ALISA produces before you send, approve, or rely on it.
2. Prohibited uses
You may not use ALISA to:
- break any law, regulation, court order, or the rules of a provider ALISA connects to;
- harass, threaten, stalk, intimidate, bully, or abuse anyone, or promote violence or hatred against any person or group;
- deceive people, commit fraud, run scams or phishing, carry out social engineering, or steal identities, passwords, or payment information;
- impersonate any person, business, government agency, or organization, or misrepresent your identity, authority, or relationship with someone;
- tell ALISA to deny that it is an AI, or to hide or change the notices ALISA gives callers and call recipients;
- collect, record, transcribe, monitor, or analyze other people's communications without the notice, consent, or authority the law requires;
- send spam, bulk or unsolicited commercial email, or make unlawful robocalls, telemarketing calls, or other unlawful unsolicited or automated calls (see sections 3 and 4);
- process special categories of information, such as health, financial account, or government identification information, or information about children, without a lawful basis and appropriate safeguards;
- use ALISA as the decision-maker for matters that have legal or similarly significant effects on a person, such as employment, housing, credit, insurance, education, health care, or legal rights;
- create, send, or store malware, exploit code, or other harmful material;
- infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights;
- use ALISA as, or in place of, an emergency service (see section 5).
3. Calls
3.1 Calls to your ALISA number
ALISA tells every caller at the start of an answered call that they are speaking with an AI assistant and that the call may be recorded and transcribed. You must not try to disable, shorten, or contradict that notice. Real-time transcription begins when ALISA answers, while separate audio recording starts only after the notice. Where the law requires prior consent from every participant, you must obtain it before using ALISA for that call. A caller who does not agree can hang up and contact you another way. Honor requests not to be recorded or transcribed; deleting a recording later does not replace obtaining required consent beforehand.
3.2 Delegated calls
When ALISA places a delegated call for you, you must:
- provide an accurate recipient and a phone number you are allowed to call;
- have any permission, existing relationship, notice, or consent the law requires before the call, including under the United States Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the Telemarketing Sales Rule, state telemarketing and "mini-TCPA" laws, and similar laws in other countries;
- respect national and state Do-Not-Call registries and any request the recipient has made not to be called;
- approve a specific, lawful purpose and stay within it;
- let ALISA identify itself as an AI assistant calling for you and ask whether the recipient agrees to continue, and honor every refusal, request to end the call, and request not to be called again.
Agreement to continue after the recipient answers does not replace any permission the law requires before placing an artificial-voice call. A non-marketing purpose does not, by itself, remove those requirements.
You may not use delegated calls:
- for marketing, sales, fundraising, political campaigning, surveys, or debt collection;
- to call emergency services or for any emergency;
- to make or accept payments, or to give or collect passwords, verification codes, or other account credentials;
- to contact people repeatedly against their wishes, or to get around a refusal or a request not to be called;
- to leave messages that hide who is calling or why;
- to give or obtain regulated professional advice, or to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on the recipient;
- to call at times or at a frequency the law does not allow.
4. Email
ALISA drafts replies and new emails for you, and sends each message only after you review and approve it. When you approve a message:
- you are its sender and are responsible for its content and recipients;
- it must not be spam, and any commercial message must follow the United States CAN-SPAM Act and similar laws elsewhere, such as Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation and the EU and UK electronic marketing rules, including accurate sender and subject information and honoring unsubscribe requests;
- it must not be misleading, defamatory, or unlawful, or disclose information you are not allowed to share.
Keep ALISA limited to the inboxes, labels or categories, and watch rules you are authorized to use. Do not use ALISA to access mailboxes that are not yours without the owner's permission.
5. Emergencies and high-risk use
ALISA is not an emergency service. Do not use ALISA to call or stand in for emergency services, for emergency dispatch, crisis response, medical triage, or public safety, or where a failure, delay, or error could cause death, injury, or other serious harm.
6. Security and platform integrity
You may not:
- probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of ALISA, or bypass its authentication, security, rate limits, usage limits, billing controls, review steps, or consent gates, without our prior written permission;
- access ALISA through automated means other than the interfaces we provide, or scrape it;
- interfere with or overload ALISA, its providers, or phone and email networks;
- reverse engineer ALISA except where the law allows this despite this restriction;
- share your account, resell ALISA, or give others access to ALISA without our written permission;
- use prompts or content designed to make ALISA ignore its instructions, reveal other users' data, or act beyond what you have authorized.
If you find a security vulnerability, please report it to us through https://www.maddtechnologies.com/contact/ and do not exploit it or disclose it publicly before we have had a reasonable time to fix it.
7. Provider rules
ALISA connects to services such as Apple, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, Telnyx, and Stripe. You must also follow their terms and acceptable use rules, including OpenAI's usage policies for AI features and your email provider's sending rules.
8. Reporting abuse
If you believe someone is using ALISA to call, email, or harm you or others, or you received a call or message from ALISA that you did not want, tell us through https://www.maddtechnologies.com/contact/. Include the phone number or email address involved and the date and time, if you have them. If you received a delegated call, you can also tell ALISA during the call that you do not want to be called again.
9. Enforcement
We may investigate suspected violations. To protect people and ALISA, we may, depending on the severity:
- warn you;
- remove content, stop a scheduled call, or block a recipient;
- limit features, rate limit, or disconnect a provider;
- suspend or close your account, as the Terms of Use describe;
- report unlawful activity to the authorities or to affected providers, and cooperate with lawful requests.
Where reasonable, we will tell you what we did and why, and you can ask us to review the decision through https://www.maddtechnologies.com/contact/. We may act without notice to stop serious or ongoing harm.
10. Changes to this AUP
We may update this AUP. Material changes follow the notice process in section 17 of the Terms of Use: we tell you in the app, by push notification, and by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect, and ALISA asks you to agree to the new version. Other changes take effect when we publish them with a new version date and an in-app notice.
